DIY Navratri Outfit Customizations: Mirrors, Tassels, and Embroidery

A craft guide to adding festive flair and movement to plain skirts or dupattas.

Three DIY upgrades

  1. Mirror border: stitch or securely glue lightweight craft mirrors along a dupatta or hem, keeping sharp edges covered.
  2. Tassel refresh: add removable tassels to blouse ties or dupatta corners so the base garment remains versatile.
  3. Contrast panel: sew a bandhani or embroidered fabric panel onto a plain skirt using a reversible or removable technique where possible.

Safety and finish

Loose mirrors and metallic trim can scratch other dancers. Tug-test every embellishment, cover rough backs, and keep decorations away from areas that rub against skin or catch on sticks.
