Navratri 2026 · Garba and Dandiya

Etiquette for Navratri Garba Nights

Moving with the circle, respecting the center shrine, and safely navigating crowded dance floors.

Dance-floor etiquette

  • Follow the direction and spacing of the existing circle.
  • Enter and leave at the edge rather than cutting through moving dancers.
  • Match stick force to your partner; Dandiya is rhythmic contact, not hitting hard.
  • Avoid filming while moving in the main lane.
  • Keep children out of very fast adult circles unless the event has a family round.
  • Respect the central lamp, shrine or Garba pot and any venue-specific religious rules.

Crowd awareness

Large events can have dense rings moving at different speeds. Pick a ring appropriate to your experience. If footwear is removed, keep track of venue surfaces and personal belongings; if shoes are allowed, choose non-slip footwear that stays secure.
