Ayudha Puja is especially important in South India and honors the tools, instruments, books, vehicles or equipment through which people work and learn. The practice connects labor, knowledge and livelihood with gratitude rather than treating only explicitly religious objects as sacred.
A practical home/workplace approach
- Clean the tool or workspace first.
- Arrange tools safely; do not place sharp or hazardous equipment where children can reach it.
- Decorate modestly with flowers or sandal/kumkum where appropriate.
- Offer prayer or gratitude according to tradition.
- Return tools to safe use after the observance.
