Why movement is restricted
Thousands of people heading toward the ghats at once cannot safely share narrow streets with ordinary vehicle traffic. Police may establish one-way pedestrian routes, no-entry zones, remote parking, or security checkpoints. Restrictions may differ by time of day, neighborhood, and official program; yesterday's route may not be usable after sunset.

Plan the last mile
Identify the closest permitted drop-off near your stay and near your chosen viewing point. Walk the final stretch in daylight if feasible. Shared autos and e-rickshaws can be useful outside restricted areas, but do not rely on their being able to cross barriers. Keep your destination's local landmark written in Hindi or on an offline map. If traveling by train or air soon after the festival, schedule generous transfer time.
Transport checklist
- Check district police and traffic advisories in the week leading to November 24, 2026.
- Confirm the last accessible vehicle point with your hotel and operator.
- Keep walking routes short enough for the slowest person in your party.
- Never ride an unauthorized vehicle through a crowd-controlled pedestrian area.
Common question
Can a cycle rickshaw reach every ghat during restrictions? No. Even non-motorized vehicles may be barred from designated high-density zones; follow the current route controls.
